## Living the American Dream as a Veteran, Visual Storyteller, and Explorer. ![[me_camera.JPG]] Hi, my name is Serge. This blog is about my life interests: aviation, photography, outdoors, traveling, reading, and leadership. ### A little bit about myself  I have moved to the U.S. when I was 15 years old. I went to school in Philadelphia, PA and joined the U.S. Army shortly after. I have served around the globe from 1999 through 2006. I came back to the U.S. after the military and got a degree in photographing imaging. Since then, I have been working as a public servant in Washington, D.C. In my spare time I enjoy aviation & flightsim, photography, mountain biking, backpacking, camping, fishing, traveling, and reading. I am also a life-long learner of leadership. And I like tinkering in Obsidian. I serve on the Board of DIrectors for [The Pilot Club ](https://thepilotclub.org) - a nonprofit organization focusing on promoting and inspiring an interest in aviation utilizing home flight simulation, while providing education, support, and mentorship to its Members. ### My beliefs & values **The American Dream** is the belief that _anyone_, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success. In my life I value honesty, hard work, helping others, strong relationships, and above all - the pursuit of happiness. Although maybe not the endless pursuit, but rather being happy in the moment and embracing life's imperfections (the [wabi-sabi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi) philosophy). I feel very lucky and grateful for the opportunities I have in my life. From work to personal relationships, for doing what I love, and for all of the things that I work hard to achieve.
