My everyday carry (EDC) has changed over the last couple of decades, but stabilized the last few years. For 2025, I added couple of new items, so in this post I'll talk about what I carry every day and how I use my tools.
Please note that, while I built my EDC kit based on my needs and mission, I am utilizing universal EDC concepts, so I hope you find value in in this post. Scroll to the end for photos.
### New for 2025
I’ll start with the new items I added in 2025. Earlier this year, ROXON Flex Companion found a cozy spot in my pants pocket and got used literally every day. Then, the Mini Flex Companion came out! Oh, my! Now, **the Mini Companion is my pocket EDC tool** and I’m really happy with it!
ROXON has been innovating in the area of modular multitool for a few years now, with their Flex modular system. While I rely on my trusty LEATHERMAN Wave Plus for work bag carry, I do enjoy the smaller Companion Mini for pocket EDC.
The Mini Flex Companion hits all the right spots! It’s compact, modular, G10 scales, and well-made. The implements loadout can be changed depending on the task/mission.
I chose not to run a blade in my mini, because I always carry a dedicated knife (see below), so my tools for standard loadout are scissors, file/depth gage/flathead, owl, and bottle opener/bigger flathead (I will be replacing it for bottle/can opener). I also picked up a set of WIHA 4mm bits to replace lesser quality ROXON bits, and run a #1 Philips bit in the Mini. I also run WIHA 1/4 inch bits for the regular Companion.
The combination of the above tools gives me a solid base to do light EDC tasks. The Mini is small enough to be virtually unnoticed in my pocket, and since I don’t use the pocket clip - I removed it.
For bigger tasks I can use the regular Companion (mine has OD Green G10 scales), or reach for my beefier and plier-based LEATHERMAN Wave Plus. I am however, considering adding the full size ROXON Flex to replace the Wave in the work bag; that way I’d have a full modular system, complete with an interchangeable variety of implements, suitable for all 3 tools (only short tools for the Mini though). That’s a winner in my book!
The rest of my EDC for 2025 remained the same.
### Watch
My watch in 2025 remained Garmin Tactix 7 Pro Ballistics Edition. I love the functionality and durability of this watch. Its built for the field with a solar charging lens, traditional buttons and touchscreen display. This multisport GPS smartwatch offers specialized tactical features as well as a built-in ballistics calculator, mapping, music, advanced training features and more. And it looks awesome as well!
### Wallet
My wallet is still the hard shell FLIPSIDE 4 in black. I have been using it now for several years. It’s one of the world’s most secure and crush resistant RFID blocking wallets. It's an evolution of the traditional wallet in terms of security, versatility, and style. I really enjoy the functionality, durability, and utility of this unit and will continue using it in 2026.
### Notebook
My pocket analog notebook remained the same for many years. Read about it [[Getting Things Done with Obsidian|here]] and [[My high-tech and low-tech hybrid Information Management System in 2020|here]]. Over the years I tried several notebooks of various sizes, and have settled on a small **Field Notes** notebook, which i carry in a generic **Traveler's** leather cover with a clear zip pocket inside for small paper items, a few business cards, and some index cards.
### EDC Pouch
I have been very pleased with the EVERGOODS Civic Access Pouch 1L (CAP1) for my smaller essentials, like charging cables, earplugs, pens, memory cards, etc… I carry it in my work bag or in my EDC backpack (see below). It's my "do-it-all" everyday organizer pouch, built with durable materials and innovative construction methods, like magnetic closure.
### Knife
For several years now, my knife of choice has been SPYDERCO "REC Exclusive" Para 3 by RIVER'S EDGE CUTLERY. It’s a great knife that served me well the last few years. The extraordinary DLC-coated CPM 10V steel has been fantastic and the coyote G10 scales held up well and look sharp (pun intended).
### Backpack
My EDC backpack is the EVERGOODS MPL22. I've been using it as my EDC backpack, as well as a personal item on air travel, for the last 2 years. In this backpack I carry my 15-inch APPLE MacBook Air M3, my Kindle, water, light jacket, EDC Pouch, AirPods, sunglasses, tissues, first aid kit, and more, with room to spare. **The size of this pack is perfect for everyday adventures outdoors or in urban environment.** The side pockets are superb for water or other items. It is comfy and has enough organization without being too compartmentalized.
